1. How will you see, if errors occurred in the tapes ?

1. We can check it in actlog for hardware/media & read write errors by using command - "q actlog se=errors"

2. To determine read/write errors for a particular volume run the command "q volume f=d". This output will show the number of read/write errors occurred to that particular volume.
2. What is the use of maximum number of mount points parameter ?
Maxnummp parameter is used to increase/decrease the client backup/restore sessions. This parameter value should not be greater than available tape drives.

4. What is collocation ? Where will you update it ?
Collocation is the process of keeping the client backed up data in a minimum number of tapes. Collocation can be done by nodes, node groups and by Filespace. We will update collocation while defining or updating storage pool definitions. update stgpool colloc=node
5. What will you do if u find errors in the tapes ?
First we have to figure it out the source of the error, whether tape drive has caused the error or tape itself has some problems. If tape drive is the culprit make sure no other tapes are mounted on that particular tape. If tape itself has problems, then audit that tape by using "audit volume fix=no" command. This will show if there are any damaged files. IF there are no damaged files move the data from that tape to another tape, if there are any damaged files then we should restore the contents of that tape from copy storage pool.
6. What is the TSM library manager ?

TSM Library Manager and TSM Library Client methods are used in the Tivoli Storage Manager environment where a single Tape Library has to be shared among 2 or more TSM Servers and Storage Agents in a SAN environment. Sharing a tape library means that multiple TSM Servers will use the tape drives of a library for their operations at the same time. Because only one drive can be used by one server at a time, there has to be someone who controls the access to the physical devices.

This is done by serializing the access to the devices. In addition to the control of the devices the library manager also has to control the status, ownership and location of the tape volumes inside the tape library. The library manager is the only Tivoli Storage Manager server with the inventory information of the shared tape library. The library manager is the only Tivoli Storage Manager server who knows all volumes that are inside a library.
7. What are the parameters in the copy group ?
version exist, version deleted, retention extra, retention only, serialization, destination, mode, frequency …… etc.
8. Explain about Serialization ?
It specifies how Tivoli Storage Manager processes files or directories when they are modified during backup processing.
9. Explain about TSM Library Manager Operations?

Library initialization

Since the library manager is the only Tivoli Storage Manager server which interacts with the library, the initialization will be done by this server during the start-up process of the server.

Volume mount/dismount

The library manager can be contacted by the clients which send mount and unmount requests. These requests will be carried out, and afterwards, a response will be sent to the clients.

Checkin/Checkout Volumes

Only the library manager can checkin and checkout out tape volumes. The clients do not have the right to perform a checkin or checkout command.

Auditing Library

The library inventory is maintained only on the library manager. The audit process on the library manager checks the presence of the volumes and the actual slot locations.
10. How to label the volume ?

If new tapes are kept in I/O exit port, run this below command
